    EPA Blocks Tougher Environmental Laws?

    29.02.08

This kind of ridiculousness is what’s gonna prevent us from getting anything done to protect the environment. MOTHERFUCKING LOBBYIST’S

EPA Justifies Blocking Calif. Waiver By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Environmental Protection Agency on Friday justified blocking California from cracking down on auto emissions by saying the problems of global warming aren’t unique to one state.

The EPA denial also blocked more than a dozen other states from implementing the tailpipe emissions reductions sought by California.

In a 48-page document describing the reasoning behind its much-criticized decision, the EPA argues that California doesn’t have the ”compelling and extraordinary conditions” required for a waiver under the Clean Air Act, because the rest of the nation also suffers the effects of global warming.

”In my judgment, the impacts of global climate change in California, compared to the rest of the nation as a whole, are not sufficiently different to be considered ‘compelling and extraordinary conditions’ that merit separate state GHG (greenhouse gas) standards for new motor vehicles,” says the document signed by EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson.

Environmentalists and California officials disagreed, contending that California has been granted Clean Air Act waivers in the past to deal with problems that are also happening elsewhere, such as diesel pollution.

Canadian Woman Sues Her Drug Dealer and Wins

    14.01.08

A Canadian woman has successfully sued the dealer who sold her an illegal street drug that put her in a coma. Sandra Bergen, 23, suffered a heart attack and spent 11 days in a coma after taking crystal methamphetamine.

Ms Bergen said Clinton Davey had known the drug was highly addictive and dangerous but sold it to make money.

Mr Davey refused to name his source of the drug, prompting the Saskatchewan judge to reject his defence - that Ms Bergen had taken the drug voluntarily.

    Craziest Eggshell Carvings Ever

    01.01.08

    Fragile & Intricate Masterpieces

Remember the highly praised Faberge eggs from the courts of Russian tzar? Modern masters of eggshell filigree carving make similarly detailed works, using only the nature-given material: eggshell itself, cut in creative patterns by hand with high-speed drills.

Some of the fascinating galleries available on the web include the work of Ron Cheruka (you can also buy his work there, just make sure of the proper HANDLING and shipping) and Gary LeMaster, the Eggshell Sculptor.

On this page you will see the work of Lew Jensen, Don Lisk and Brian Baity, as well as various Russian and Chinese egg sculptors, with some glimpses into the creation of these carvings.

3/4 of you Californians are Poor Like Me.

    06.12.07

only 1/4 households in california can afford to buy an entry level house. that is fucking absurd. 3/4 of us are slaves to landlords and piss money into the wind at the end of every month. That is just crazy.

This is probably where i’ll raise my kids and the complete story below.

State entry-level housing affordability at 24%

The percentage of households that could afford an entry-level home in California stood at 24 percent in the third quarter, unchanged from the same period a year ago, according to a report released Thursday.

The California Association of Realtors said the minimum household income needed to purchase an entry-level home at $482,910 in California in the third quarter of 2007 was $99,590, based on an adjustable interest rate of 6.56 percent and assuming a 10 percent down payment.

In Santa Clara County, 21 percent of households could afford an entry-level home, down from 26 percent in the same period last year but the same as the previous quarter.

First-time buyers typically purchase a home equal to 85 percent of the prevailing median price. The monthly payment including taxes and insurance was $3,320 for the third quarter of 2007.

At 48 percent, the High Desert region was the most affordable in the state, followed by the Sacramento region at 46 percent.

Santa Barbara was the least affordable region in the state at 11 percent, followed by the Monterey region at 16 percent.

NYT’ SUNDAY PREVIEW: Suze Orman Reveals She is the ‘55-year-old Virgin’

    By E&P Staff

    Published: February 23, 2007 2:20 PM ET

NEW YORK In an interview for The New York Times Magazine this coming Sunday, financial guru and TV host Suze Orman gets on Deborah Solomon’s case for not looking out for her own money, partly because “you are a woman.” This inspires Solomon to ask Orman if she is married.

Orman says she “has a relationship with life,” so Solomon presses her, and Suze then reveals that her “life partner” is Kathy Travis and, “We’re going on seven years. I have never been with a man in my whole life. I’m still a 55-year-old virgin.”

Orman says they’d like to get married, and both “have millions of dollars in our name. It’s killing me that upon my death, K.T. is going to lose 50 percent of everything I have to estate taxes. Or vice versa.”

Pressed again, she says that estimates that she is worth $25 million are “pretty close.”

She says she has about a million dollars in the stock exchange, because if she loses it all “I don’t personally care.”
