The new L.A. boutique has designer clothes, and an expiration date. Can you make it in time?
For the past few years, avant-garde Japanese label Comme des Garçons founder Rei Kawakubo has operated a series of Guerrilla Stores around the world. The concept of the conceptual designer was to invade an unassuming space, stick around only for a year, pack everything up, and boutique-surf to another international city.
The first Guerrilla Store opened 2004 in Berlin—though it broke its promise and became a permanent store —and CDG residencies found temporary abode in Beirut, Athens, Warsaw, and Singapore thereafter.
Now after four years, the xenophilous iconic label finally makes its U.S. debut, inhabiting a former bank space in downtown Los Angeles. We just hope this is only the beginning of Comme in America (ahem, New York). Guess we’ll have to wait a year and find out…
